“Really a good read, I highly recommend it.”

About Kathy Guyton

Kathy Guyton has truly enjoyed writing U.S. State Names: The Stories of How Our States Were Named. It is the culmination of more than ten years of research, travel, interviews, and writing.

Kathy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with Bachelor's degrees in English and Communications. Having lived in Texas her entire life, she moved from Austin to Los Angeles, and studied screenwriting for one year as a Fellow at the American Film Institute in Hollywood.

In 1991 she married Jim Guyton and moved to Colorado where, reading such authors as Thomas Fleming, James W. Loewen, and George R. Stewart, she developed a love and enthusiasm for American History and a deep curiosity with regard to onomastics and toponymy.

While raising two children, Andy and Leejay, Kathy began work on U.S. State Names. A labor of love, the effort would ebb and flow until, finally, in 2009 she launched her own publishing company, Mountain Storm Press. Today Kalhy Guyton lives with her family in the foothills above Boulder, Colorado, and continues her research and writing.
